Back in December 2009, I had the pleasure of taking pictures of the lovely Maraca family at Wellington Point. These guys were a lot of fun to shoot! I don’t think they took their smiles off all day.

    Kris Anderson IFSWPP M.PhotogI M.WPPI MNZIPP(Dist.) is a Certified Professional Photographer with the Professional Photographers Association of Queensland, an NZIPP Australian Accredited Professional Photographer, and proud EIZO Ambassador. He has been recognised as a Fellow of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers, an NZIPP Master with Distinction 2 bars, and Icon International Photography Awards Double Master.

    Kris’ work has received gold awards at international, national and state levels for professional print judging. Most recently he was recognised as the 2025 SWPP Photojournalism Photographer of the Year and the 2024 NZIPP Australian Professional Creative Photographer of the Year, and won a coveted 2024 Icon International Photography Awards Grand Award for In-Camera Artistry. Prior to that, Kris was awarded 2019 AIPP Queensland Professional Photographer of the Year. He has also won state and national titles for AIPP Professional Illustrative Photographer of the Year.

    DISNEY OFF ICE - At the recent @thesocietyofphotog DISNEY OFF ICE - At the recent @thesocietyofphotographers 20x16”, this image for @observatorytheatre’s Disney Off Ice scored a tidy 90 in the Advertising+Commercial division. That was enough to get me to the finalist podium vs the untouchable @neilshearer_photography for the second year in a row. There’s no shame in being a runner up when the winner scored a near-perfect 99!! (Watch your back Neil, I’m coming for ya. 😆) We updated the image for the new season of Disney Off Ice - 6 shows only at Studio1 in Yeerongpilly from 28 Feb through 9 March - all the details at @observatorytheatre’s site! Thanks @lachlan_driscoll for being such an excellent creative collaborator when we are working on images like these!     Another shot from my Long Exposure Portraiture wor Another shot from my Long Exposure Portraiture workshop for the SWPP in London. I didn’t take too many shots, but I did sneak a few in!! I’ve been marvelling at the shots taken by workshop participants as they post them in our private Facebook group, and… it is SO GOOD seeing different people with different brains and different ideas using the same raw material and making completely different portraits!! Props to @kenzielauder, who models for pretty much the entire week at the @thesocietyofphotographers convention and just crushes it shoot after shoot ❤️
    I had the most wonderful experience today. It’s I had the most wonderful experience today. It’s always a pleasure working with the excellent folks from @minolatheatre. When @katjaned told me about the cast I’d be shooting for this show, I got REALLY excited - every one of them is a great human, and I have history with all of them in different ways, spanning my history as both a performer and photographer, in some cases going back 35 years! (Impro Gladiators at Dockside circa 1989? Yes please!) So this was an absolute treat today, and it makes me so thankful that I get to work with and spend time with creatives that are top shelf humans. @the_rumblebee Matt @colinwsmithau @itsthatonegirlclaire @ozhenry @katjaned you are all spectacular and I’m glad to know you!!!     SWPP Photojournalism Photographer of the Year 2025 SWPP Photojournalism Photographer of the Year 2025! At the awards ceremony for @thesocietyofphotographers 2025 20x16 print awards, I am absolutely thrilled to have taken out the PJ category! Photojournalism is not my norm, but a theatre-related project was a perfect opportunity to tell an important story in an authentic observational way. I’m proud to be part of the @artstheatre community, photographing shows for more than 10 years, but this was a very special show to photograph - the last performance at 210 Petrie Terrace after 60+ years. I’ll share some full sized images soon, but here’s the print hanging on the wall in the gallery.
