Normally when I’m doing headshots, I have to rely on my natural charm and wit (cough) to relax the subject and get the best shots out of them. I had a secret weapon with Lara – her husband Darren is one of my oldest friends. So the question “What’s the dumbest thing Darren’s done this week” elicits a genuine happy smile from her. (I never did get the answer out of her though.)
Hooking Up
Appearing as part of the Melt festival at the Powerhouse, Hooking Up celebrates stories of one night stands. The brief for the show was instagram-selfie-style shots of people reacting to the aftermath of their hookup. Are they happy? Horrified? Just want to sneak out? Secretly delighted?
Carrie The Musical
After shooting PRIMA’s Spamalot last year, it was great to be invited back to photograph for them again. After throwing some concepts around with director Drew, musical director Hayley, and Prima boss Stacie, we came up with a series of super-dramatic images featuring quite a bit of blood. Props to the cast, particularly lead Amelia Burton, for patience and tenacity with this shoot!
As always, when I’m shooting headshots, there’s a little bit of mucking around – it helps to loosen people up and have fun, and you get the best natural smiles after some good goofing around. Drew was the first up, and when asked for his best supermodel face, smashed it out of the park. Hayley did the same, and before long we had the entire cast doing their best OTT supermodel pose.
